JFBL introduces Kelly Sharkey

Please meet Kelly Sharkey

Kelly has been working with JFBL since it's inception back in 2006.  I'm so lucky to have Kelly in my life both professionally and personally (our husbands grew up together)!  Not only is she the most kind-hearted person you'll ever meet, she is a natural at all things beauty!  Much to my luck, Kelly is as talented with designing original hair styles as she is doing beautiful makeup!

In 2010, Kelly will  focus on her makeup skills and join JFBL as a Makeup Artist, leading my new team.  She will continue to work on-location with brides as well as meeting women at the Beauty Library for private consulting.  Kelly will also continue to forward her education with hair styling. Her versatility makes her a true gem!  I am so proud to have her on my team!

Thanks Kelly for sharing your gift with me and all of the brides you work with!

A little more about Kelly......

Favorite Color?  Pink, pink and more pink!

What do you love most about working with brides?  I really love being with a bride and her friends and family....it's such a special day and I always feel lucky to be included in all the "getting ready fun".

How would you describe your personal style?  Hmmmmm.....that's a tough one.  I like to think of myself as trendy with a little bit of flair.

Your favorite makeup products?  I love bare eye base essentials by Trish McEvoy.  My newest favorite is the photo finish concealer by JF Minerals (Jennie's new makeup line).

Dogs or Cats?  Definitely Dogs!

Describe your personality in one word:  Honest

Your idea of the perfect date?  As cheesy as it sounds, a walk on the beach at sunset and a picnic dinner by candle light

Share a good makeup tip:  Avoid black eye liner for day time.  It can be too harsh.  Try a deep amethyst or charcoal instead.

Favorite food?  Pizza, even when it's not good, it's still good.

What sets you apart from other makeup artists?  Definitely my undeniable charm :)  On a more serious note, I always listen to my clients.  I always explain what I am doing when meeting for a lesson to ensure my clients know how to duplicate the look when they get home.  I love what I do and I think that puts people at ease.

What are some other interests?  I absolutely love to read.  If I don't have a book to read, I feel like something is not right in the world.  I love trivia shows, shopping, camping, shopping, anything fashion-related, and did I mention shopping?

Share a fond memory of your wedding:  Oh, there are so many.  Nate waiting for me at the alter was a big one.  He looked so handsome.  The whole experience was incredible.  There is something to be said for having all of the people you love most in one place at the same time. Oh, and the mashed potatoes!  They were sooo good!

Fashion Makeup

Every once in a while I get the chance to be really creative with my makeup skills.  Since I'm in the wedding industry and my niche is a natural look, it isn't too often that I  get to experiment with bold colors and think outside the box with my overall approach.  I actually forgot how much I love to doing this kind of makeup.  So you could imagine my delight when my friend Sarah True introduced me to photographer,  Adrien Broom.  Take one look at her website and you'll understand.  She is madly talented and her style is so original.  I, of course, jumped at the opportunity to get my old MAC kit out of the closet and start painting!  It was seriously like a rebirth.  I'm patiently waiting to see more photos from this amazing 2-day project which took place on a beautiful landscape in Old Lyme, CT.  The models were styled in frilly, pastel, vintage dresses with beautiful organic, hand made jewels.  We even had a goat on-location for some of the shots.  Yes, a goat.  Very cool.  More to come....

Fragrance Friday--Scent of Summer

_5771415.jpg

There is something about the scent of summer that I love!  The smell of the ocean breeze,  warm sand and salty water is so nostalgic.  I used to dream of a perfume that would remind me of  all of those things and then Bobbi Brown was clever enough to bottle that dream, calling it BEACH. (Though she may have stole it from Cosmo Kramer!)

Originally Bobbi launched BEACH body oil and eventually added a fragrance, body lotion and shower gel.  Talk about the perfect gift basket for someone's beach house.  There are also guest soaps in the collection.  The soft aroma is filled with coconut and vanilla and is infused with avocado oil.

This scent reminds me of our annual vacation on BLOCK ISLAND.  We recently returned from our beachy  Block Island adventure at the end of July.  Perfect beach days at Scotch beach, mudslides at the OAR, dinner at Eli's, and dancing to the disco at Captain Nicks, just to name a few of the festivities.  I was revived but it just wasn't enough....

I want to apologize for the lack of posts recently.  When we returned from our dreamy island trip, I realized that I needed more time to step back and enjoy some time off, so that is just what I did!

Now, I am back and ready to share some amazing projects that I was involved with earlier this summer.  Stay tuned for pictures from an amazing bridal workshop with Justin and Mary Marantz, photos of The Beauty Library by the talented Carrie Roseman, pics from one rockin fashion shoot with Adrien Broom, the official launch of my new, mineral makeup and logo by Chocolate Creative Design and much more!  In the mean time.....

Enjoy the final days of summer!
