Guest Blogger Thursday: Cultivate Excitement w/Tracee teaches yoga
photo cred: free-law-of-attraction.com |
Cultivating Excitement is a phrase that pops into my mind lately. This winter has been a wild one! And even though I love the storms, the energy (and even the shoveling) that ensues- these recent peeks of spring that the more mild days have shown us- leave me excited for the seasonal shift that is around the corner.
You know the feeling?
That's what people are talking about when they discuss the law of attraction and vibration. They are talking about that feeling- that buzz, the raise in your internal emotional vibration- and you are in charge of it.
I've been Cultivating Excitement. I've been allowing eagerness, willingness, hopefulness,to enter my mind. I'll actually experience the sensation- so that I may align with with and allow more of it to flow my way.
Feel like trying it?
When you go to bed tonight: run through a list in your mind of all the things you are excited about. Smile with your eyes, smile with your heart. Feel the possibility and potential-
and when you wake up? Do it all over again.
Wait and see what happens :)

Beauty Tip Tuesday: Head-To-Toe help!
A season of falling temperatures, icy winds and dry, indoor heat can really take a toll on your skin! Last week I shared advice for managing dry, itchy skin on your face.
Let's not forget about areas below the neck, like elbows and knees!
Tip: Slather on a rich, cream immediately after you get out of the shower to seal in moisture while skin is still wet. Trust me, it makes sure a difference! Try Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion-- a gold-standard for sensitive skin since 1945-- made with natural colloidal oatmeal which leaves a protective barrier on skin and prevents water loss.

Must Have Monday: Rejuvenating Serum by Tata Harper
I'm keeping a close eye on Tata Harper's Eco-Luxe skin care products! The buzz about her products is strong and there is already a cult following in New York and LA.
A few weeks ago I had a phone chat with Kerry from the New York office. I learned that Tata's products are 100% natural and 70% organic. The organic ingredients used in the products are all grown on her own farm in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. Tata is passionate about her products and is dedicated to providing results without using any harmful, synthetic ingredients. If you're the type to check out your products on the Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Data Base, you'll be happy to know that Tata's products are indeed approved....and, by Ken Cook--the president himself!
I have been using the rejuvenating serum for about a week now. My skin is glowing! Seriously, I am walking around bare-faced just to show my friends how amazing my skin looks!
The key ingredients are:
Menyanthes Flower-- helps maintain healthy skin cells
Date extract- helps to minimize lines and wrinkles ( 11% decrease after just 24 hours!)
Alfalfa Extract: shown to restore skin's natural glow.
To learn more about Tata and her products, check her out in the November issue of Vogue.

Feature Friday By Emily Denny
Makeup for this look was inspired the oil painting, Bacchus (1595) by Italian Baroque master, Caravaggio. The image (as shown below) displays a youthful Bacchus, with his dark curly hair, reclining in a classical fashion with grapes and wine leaves. The original portrait is found in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
I really enjoyed creating this look. I wanted the lip color to resemble the color of wine so I chose a rich shade of berry from Jennie's signature makeup line. The color is called Laquer. (available soon for purchase ON-LINE! Stay tuned for the launch of our new, e-commerce website!)
I'll be sharing more from this collection of work in a few weeks! Please check back soon! Until then.....
Have a great weekend, JF Beauties!

Guest Blogger Thursday: Nutrition Coach Jane Ashley
Dear Lovely Ladies,
Today I had a sugar craving. In fact, I’ve been having alot of them lately - usually late at night, and typically chocolate. And I noticed that my skin was breaking out and really dry. Usually when this happens, I realize that there is one thing missing in my diet that needs to be there....it’s WATER. Water is one of the best things you can do for your skin and to aid in weight loss. And we all know that we are supposed to drink tons of water, so I am taking my own advice and getting more in. Will you do it with me?
Here are my top 10 ways of getting more water into your body:
- Set a big glass of water next to your bed at night, and drink it in the morning before your feet hit the floor.
- Buy a cute water pitcher (I got mine at a tag sale - handpainted! see pic) to keep filled on your counter so when you pass it during the day, you remember to drink it. Aim for drinking the whole thing in one day.
- Keep a case of bottled water in your car and drink one every time you drive somewhere.
- Carry a water bottle with you whereever you go.
- Set the alarm on your phone for every hour and drink when it goes off.
- Eat more water-dense foods like celery, cucumber, watermelon, and lots of fruit and veggies.
- Add lemon, lime, cucumber or mint. Fill a pitcher with water and drop in a few slices of lemon. The refreshing taste will keep you going back for more.
- Mark down 8 boxes on a calendar or a piece of paper. Cross off each glass as you make progress.
- Purified water tastes much better and has less harmful chemicals compared with regular tap water. Try to drink filtered water where possible and you’ll enjoy it even more.
- Substitute a cup of warm water with a drop of honey for the coffee you might have after lunch and dinner. This will also help you eliminate caffeine, which dehydrates the body.
We hope you can join us for our first "Beauty Social" on Mar. 1 at the Jennie Fresa Beauty Library in Clinton, where women will gather to learn nutrition secrets, share a glass of wine and taste some delicious treats! Click here for more info!
Good luck and here’s to healthy skin and hydrated bodies!
Peace & Veggies,
Jane

Beauty Tip Tuesday: Calm red, dry skin
Is your face red and itchy? Here's a quick, inexpensive fix that you can try at home:
Head over to your local whole foods market and buy some organic honey pronto!
Slather on a thin layer to your face and leave it on for about ten minutes. Did you know that honey is one of the best sources for vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants!? This mask will work wonders for dry, splotchy skin!
Remove the mask with a wash cloth using luke-warm water.
Rinse the wash cloth and run it under COLD water. Lastly, lay the cold cloth over your face for five more minutes. The cold water will constrict blood vessels, close pores and calm redness.

Must have Monday: Dr Alkaitis Organic eye cream
For a little extra loving care around your eyes, you MUST try Dr. Alkaitis organic eye cream!!
A few weeks ago a little box appeared on the stoop of the Beauty Library! The skin care team at Dr Alkaitis were kind enough to send me a sample kit of their delicious, organic skin care products to try out! Oh yes, I'm a very lucky girl!
This eye cream claims to diminish puffiness and fine lines as well protect your skin from the sun and environmental pollutants.
I can tell you, it goes on velvety smooth and smells so sweet, you almost want to stick your finger in the jar and take a taste! I noticed a difference around my eyes within the first few days. My concealer goes on much better and there is an obvious brightness around my eyes that wasn't there before! That's good enough for me!

Feature Friday by Lindsay Milan and Jennie Fresa
Happy Friday, JF Beauties!
Meet Jessica! This gorgeous gal married her sweetie, Brendan, this past October at the Branford House at Avery Point. They couldn't have had a more perfectly crisp fall day, and as you can tell from the photo below, the bride-to-be just radiated such elegance and beauty.
Jennie and I teamed up as the glam squad duo for the day, and spent the morning with Jessica and her bridal party. While all the girls flipped through fashion magazines, and chatted over coffee and breakfast, Jennie and I set to work. Jennie was on makeup, and I handled the twirling and whirling of updos.
For Jessica, we styled a romantic, side swept pony, complete with organic, beach waves - perfect for her wedding by the sea...
Love this moment her photographer captured - such a romantically beautiful glimpse into the day from the bride's perspective. Love the helping hands buttoning the back of her gown.
In the picture below, you can see a slight glimmer - that's from her rhinestone and ribbon headband, which we wove through her style.
Jessica, we wish you and your sweetie nothing but the best! To love, laughter, and happily ever after!
Have a fantastic weekend, JF Beauties! I'll leave you with this lovey-dovey shot of Jessica and Brendan to put you in the Valentine's Day spirit!
Until next time!
xo, Lindsay

Guest Blogger Thursday: Sami's Valentine DIY
Hello readers! If you don't remember me, I'm Sami from Poor & Pretty — a culture blog about fashion, cosmetics, local businesses, DIY & cupcakes on a budget. I also have an Etsy shop where I sell cupcake soaps (check out my special Valentine ones!). Keeping with my tradition of DIY guest articles, I've decided to cross-post something I wrote on Poor & Pretty yesterday: DIY Valentine.
My boyfriend and I don't have lots of money to spend on each other (hence the name "Poor & Pretty"), so we decided to make our own Valentine cards. I think handmade is so much more special, anyway, because it truly comes right from the heart. Here are the cards we made:
You might remember making Valentines in school or at home when you were kids (I remember that, too!), but you can still be just as crafty and make really neat cards as an adult — cardmaking is not just a children's craft! Use whatever patterned/colored paper you have lying around (I even used a paper bag!) and a few sheets of thicker cardstock. You'll also need scissors, glue sticks, a pencil (to draw your hearts) and — if you want to make inverted layers like my boyfriend did (see the card above on the left), you'll need a razor or x-acto knife and a thick sheet of cardboard or something heavy to make your cuts on so you don't scratch up your crafting surface. Check out my full tutorial here to view all the steps of Stan's inverted layered card.

The layers on my card are a bit simpler and would also make a great challenge for your kids if you have any. Using 7 different sheets of paper, I cut progressively smaller hearts and pasted them one on top of the other with a glue stick (stacking them up like pancakes) and then pasting them on folded cardstock.
If you're still thinking about what to get your sweetie or friend for Valentine's Day, check out my Sweet Heart cupcake soaps in my Etsy shop! They're adorable, with little embedded soap hearts inside of them. If you order them by 7am tomorrow, you'll received them on Valentine's Day. xoxo

The resort is unbelievable. Photos do not do this place justice! Yoga on the beach every morning, breakfast lunch & dinner served in the hill top (ocean view) restaurant. Hammocks, kayaks, beaches for lounging reading & playing, Yoga in the late afternoon, snorkeling trips and picnics to neighboring deserted islands. It was amazing. I should've known! The next one being in November, after Thanksgiving. The dates are not solidified but it's early enough to play with your calendar and start dreaming- or shall I say visualizing this experience. Beauty Trend Tuesday: The Super High Bun
I'm having mixed feelings here so I want your opinion.
I'm assuming The Black Swan has inspired this new, super high version of the ballerina bun. Usually, I'm a low-bun kinda gal but this look seems to be causing some mixed reactions among the celebrity crowd.
The top knot is bold and striking and perhaps a sexy option for going out on Valentines Day?! Here are a few different takes:
My personal favorite option is seen here on Rachel Bilson. I love her! The center part is great! I really like how the bun is sightly off-center and loose! This is the most "wearable" version to me.
Kate Bosworth is gorgeous! This bun is sophisticated and dressy. I would like this for a special night out. Note: I think she has the right idea NOT wearing earrings!!
Who is this prima ballerina? Seriously, she's taking it too far with the tu-tu. Honestly, I don't like this look for real life. It's fun for a fashion show or photo shoot. Not too many ladies can wear a bun the size of their head.
I would love to hear your thoughts!!!!
