Beauty Tip Tuesday- How to avoid dry skin this winter!

Oh baby, it's cold outside. Here are a few tips to help keep your skin soft, glowing and lush during these cold winter months.

1.) Use cool or warm water to wash your face. If the water is too hot, it can cause broken veins, irritation and dry out your skin.

2.) Change to a milky cleanser for winter. Here are a few that I have used and enjoy:

Sisley Cleansing Milk with white lily--you can wash it off or tissue off if you are very dry.
Trish McEvoy Cleansing Milk--leaves your skin dewy yet still clean feeling.
Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleaner--great for all skin types and is a good price

3.) Exfoliate less. 1x a week is good this time of year.

4.) Use an alcohol free toner ( really, this should be true for all year round!)

5.) Switch your moisturizer to a rich formula with ultra protection (Yes, you still need SPF in the winter!). A few of my faves:

Trish McEvoy Dry Skin Normalizer--leaves skin velvety, perfect under makeup.
Estee Lauder's Daywear Plus --can use all year, comes in 3 formulas and is good for everyone.
Clinique CX soothing moisturizer SPF 25--a secret weapon against rain, wind and cold-perfect for those who run outside.

6.) At night, layer a natural oil, like sweet almond oil or neroli oil under your creams for an added surge of moisture. These oils are great for everyone and can usually be found at your local whole foods market.

7.) If you get facials regularly, ask your aesthetician for a "hydrating" mask. The FASSAGE, available at the Beauty Library in Clinton, CT, uses a ROYAL GELEE mask this time of year, leaving the skin silky and super hydrated. :)
